Head Damage

The severe head injury on this female snapping turtle occurred from a male during the breeding season. Snapping turtles as their name suggests can be very aggressive. In the wild, the female is usually able to get away and avoid injuries like these. The problem stems from captivity when the females cannot get away from the males due to being enclosed within an artificial environment. It is advised that if you do not have the space to house snapping turtles together, then you need to look at keeping them separate.
