The Snapping Turtle here, named Nessie, came into the centre very over weight, as you can clearly see. They can survive our temperatures but they do not truly thrive.
Nessie is currently in a large indoor pool and on a more nutritional diet than his previous one. Only 12 months later he has already regained his waistline. You can see in the picture that he is much healthier looking now than he was originally. Too many reptiles come into the centre being overweight. Please be aware that obesity can kill or greatly reduce an animals life span.
